It looks like Research in Motion has done it!  Break the 100k app mark for BB10, that is. Last week, Research in Motion reported that during the two days the Blackberry 10 port-a-thon ran that there were 15,000 submissions.  Today, Alec Saunders, VP Developer Relations at Research In Motion announced that, over the last day and a half, developers have submitted yet another 19,000 apps (19,071 to be exact) for BB10's pre-launch.  That brings the total to 34,000 from the port-a-thons alone, meaning there could be as many as 104,000 apps available by the January 30th launch date of the ...

Posted by MetroMan of UrbanToronto.ca: "Cassius, I'd love to see what you could come up with to update the exterior, considering your excellent rendering design abilities. From the info I've heard, we can expect better use of the 25,000 square feet of media wall space, better signage and rides on the roof that should be visible from the square." Over the past weekend I decided that it was time to replace the header images on this website, so I came up with this image.  It was inspired by a combination of Microsoft Window's splash screen and a lot of the icons and buttons that have been dominating in the web 2.0 world. Feel free to click on the image and download the larger (4000 x 2754) image if you need to use it for something.  Please give me credit if doing so somehow fits in with whatever you use it for, but don't feel obligated to do so. I have decided to turn this post into a tutorial for those that may be starting in gr...

In this post I'm going to show you how I created two 3d renderings (see the post) for the 7 Labatt Avenue office building in Toronto. I was contracted to produce two marketing renderings of the existing building so that the owner of the building could use them on his website and also on the marketing materials there produced. While I use a 3D program named TrueSpace by Caligari, you can use the same principles as I have in this tutorial to end up with similar results.  I have performed screencaps along the way in order to put together this tutorial. Step 1 - Importing the Floorplans ...

I was commissioned by 7 Labatt Avenue, in Toronto, to produce two renderings of the building to use on their website and in building-lease marketing materials.  The company I work for, SevenL Networks, is in this building. The building had a requirement for me to produce the renderings as quickly as possible but on a very tight budget (just $2,000) so these produced over a one-week period a few weeks ago. I wish that I was given a bit more time so that I could have touched it up a lot better, but they told me that it was more than sufficient for their needs, and the customer is always r...

The Uptown Residences, Toronto by Pemberton. Rendering by Cassius AdamsThe Uptown Residences is a 48 storey residential condominium tower currently proposed in Toronto, Canada near the intersections of Yonge & Bloor at 35 Balmuto Street. During the proposal process, the building was initially referred to as 746 Yonge Street.

I produced this rendering with the assistance of the architectural elevations that were supplied by the developer to the City of Toronto, which become public documents.  Artistic license was used in the colouring of the building and glass.  The rendered condo is the tall thin building towards the left in this image.

This is an unofficial rendering as I model it in 3D and rendered it out of personal interest.

3D Rendering - Residence of College Park 3There is a proposal being put forward in the City of Toronto for a 3rd phase of the Residence of College Park near College St & Bay Street.  The tower is proposed to be about 60 floors tall.

I was able to obtain the elevations in a document at the City which is in the public domain.  Using the elevations and photographs of the first two phases, I was able to use artistic license and put together this rendering.  It is an unofficial rendering; it was put together out of personal interest and I was not contracted to produce it on behalf of the developer.

The proposed condo has since changed in design and the developer is now looking to build up to 75 storeys or more.  It’s also now known as “Aura”, it’s official name.

I’m not exactly sure since I did keep time records (it wasn’t a paid contract), but I believe it took about 40-60 hours to produce the 3D model, an additional 10 hours on texturing and lighting.  The rendering process took about 6 hours and then photoshop touchups were about 2-3 hours.  A number of test renders were performed throughout the process, and I decided to keep them so that I can post images of the 3D modelling I went through at some point.  I will try to post it over the upcoming weeks.
